A Californian Cowboy Wedding Affair

It wasn’t exactly a shotgun wedding, but it had all kinds of shotguns around because this wasn’t just a wedding, no this was a ‘weddin’ day (cue the slight tang). Susan and Clayton’s cowboy wedding day took place in Clayton’s family ranch, the Wiedemann Ranch in Pleasanton.

The whole ranch was worked from the ground up. Susan, Clayton and their families turned an old horse farm into their dining hall, with a dance floor and an old saloon-kind of a bar. Guests roamed with their fanciest jeans and wide-brimmed hats. It was more of a casual tie affair. In the middle of the roaming Pleasanton and Trivalley hills, they created a space with miles of views just for the ceremony. Their cows hung out as usual, and Susan was all smiles.

She marched to the beat of her own drum, and Clayton knew he had his perfect match. Who else would go boar hunting, prefer a side by side transportation instead of an Impala and permit him to wear his cowboy boots on the day of their wedding day? – Susan, that’s who. Their love story was one that was unique, as with every relationship, but they wanted to mutually honor it by creating a wedding day that represented that.

Every detail was thought out and Clayton’s parents very flexible with their design choices. Although their more than 250 guests count would seem a little hard to accommodate, the layout of every part of the event created an intimacy–but still a bit of a hoedown. They found a Bluegrass band to come out and serenade them the whole day, and it tied the entire rustic theme together. Months and months of planning, designing, moving, cleaning, setting up and moving a crowd of horses literally paved the way for biggest celebration the Wiedemann Hills had ever seen.

As their sunset and cows moved pastures, the old barn was blasting with music. They celebrated with their whole hearts. Clayton held on to his prop gun, and Susan danced to Whitney Houston’s, I Wanna Dance with Somebody with her single ladies on the dance floor. We’re pretty sure that even the horses’ sidestepped a few times.

Susan & Clayton, thank you for giving us the incredible experience of photographing your wedding. It was as equally as fun for us to join in and capture it for you. We love that you have such tender and caring hearts and not just with your family and friends but even with us. We felt like the luckiest photographers!
