How to Prep Your Skincare for your Shoot & Wedding

We brought on the ladies from the renowned Salt Spell Beauty team to give you our clients and brides a guide on how to prep your skin for one of the biggest days of your life or if you’re having a shoot with us. Here’s what they have to say along with some of their beautiful shots we got to capture in Shark Fin Cove Beach in Davenport.

DEAR BRIDES, SKIN MATTERS.

What is the one thing all of our brides ask for? Flawless, glowing skin. At Salt Spell Beauty, we know that a hydrated, healthy complexion is the real secret to that J.Lo glow. Don’t stress if your skin is feeling far from dewylicious – All you have to do is embrace a few new habits, and you too will be glowing for the gods.

1. DRINK WATER  Don’t be thirsty, quench that sh**! There is a reason everyone says to drink a gallon of water a day – this alone will make your skin glow like no other, flush out toxins in your body, and elevate your energy levels – and, it’s free! If you’re going to be running around planning your wedding like a chicken with its head cut off, at least you can be a hydrated one. Hydration hack # 1: keep two glasses of water next to your bed – drink one right before you sleep and chug one first thing in the morning. Hydration hack # 2: put a few sprigs of mint, lemon/lime slices, & cucumber in your water for added nutrients – we promise it will make you look forward to sippin’.

2. Tighten up your skincare regimen. It’s simple: Cleansing, toning, exfoliating, and moisturizing must be a part of your daily routine if you want your skin to love you back. And if you want to be on your baddest behavior, throw in serum and an eye cream.

Here are some of the skincare products we are currently obsessed with in the order you should use them:

Cleanser

Nuxe Melting Cleansing Gel with Rose Petals . Gently cleanses without stripping the skin, removes face and eye makeup, and it smells like roses. Yum.

Exfoliator

Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask. Buffs away dead skin cells to leave the skin feeling supremely soft and supple.  We recommend exfoliating 3-4 times a week.

Toner

Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion ***holy grail product***. Exfoliating toner that balances your skin’s pH regulates oil production, brightens dark spots, evens skin texture, and helps with acne. Truly liquid gold. Disclaimer*     you don’t do it for the scent, you do it for its magical effects. Check out this article from Into The Gloss to find out which p50 formula is best for your skin type.

Serum

“Why do I need a serum” you might ask? Serums deeply penetrate the skin’s layers more than any other product, making your moisturizer even more effective. We live for Vintners Daughter – this serum contains 22 of the highest quality active botanicals that stimulate cell turnover, maintain elasticity, restores skin balance and gives brightness and radiance to the skin. Plus it smells like heaven on earth

Eye Cream

Kheils Rosa Artica Eye Balm. Rosa Artica is the “Resurrection Flower”, which jolts cellular activity, stimulates collagen and elastin production, and hydrates.

Daytime moisturizer: La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Best of Beauty-winning, super lightweight moisturizer with SPF60. Enough said. Get in the habit of SPF, sun goddesses!

Nighttime moisturizer: Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Creme.  A richer cream is best before bed to let your skin marinate and soak up the hydrating goodness. Anti-aging hack: Decollatages need love, too! Don’t forget to do everything you do to your face to your neck and chest.

3. Get a Facial (if you aren’t already). We know that wedding expenses add up quickly (#RIPlifesavings) and not everyone can afford to get monthly facials leading up to the wedding. To that we say YOGMO (you only get married once) – treat yourself to a session with an esthetician who will not only give your skin a jump start, but will literally look at your skin under a microscope, tell you exactly how to take care of it, and what products are best for YOU. We recommend doing this six months before the wedding so you can give your fab new products time to kick in and see the difference in your skin.

Beautiful, glowing skin isn’t just for the movie stars – it’s within your grasp! Don’t think of it as one more thing you have to do – enjoy your 5-minute ritual of skin love in the morning and at night. It’s a luxury your beautiful face deserves.
