She was quiet, calm even. Her locks were waiting to be dressed in bridal beauty and with a coffee in hand, she waited. Waited for the moment, they had dreamed about all of last year. He was dressed to the nine. Every detail in place and the sound of inside jokes laughs and sips of bubbly filled the space. Everyone was getting ready. All of Kristen and Ryan’s friends also anxiously waited for the moment to see them finally married. It was a special date. It was a date selected to coincide with Kristen’s sister’s brief time back in the country from Saudi Arabia where she lives. Everyone who had a special tie to them, from High School to life-long cousins and brothers toasted to the last few moments Kristen and Ryan had before getting married.
There wasn’t a space that was remarkably stunning in the San Jose Mission. Kristen knew from the very beginning of wedding planning that the Mission in Fremont was the perfect location to exchange vows with her beloved hubby-to-be at the time. From the historic walls to the 100-year-old cemetery next to it, and the line of olive trees, no space lacked character or an enchanting appeal. Kristen arrived soon after Ryan and her more than 200 guests waited patiently in the wooden pews. The light grew dark but as the doors opened the flood of light came from Kristen’s direction shining on Ryan’s face as he saw her walk down the aisle grabbing hold of her dad. She lightly teared up while maintaining everybody’s attention including her groom’s. The moment was sweet, and it lasted a mere 40 seconds but it now stays frozen in time while Victor and I captured it.
It was clear that they’re loved. It was clear that they are celebrated in the kind of way that two people with their hearts and souls deserve to be honored. Family and friends couldn’t be any more patient while many waited to congratulate them and cheer them on. Their grandmas were present, and Ryan’s family made the long trip from So-Cal to be there too. It felt triumphant, their vows and promises and their communion in the church the perfect start to the rest of their lives.
The sun set and after they made their rounds greeting everyone, we borrowed them to culminate their portraits with the sun hiding behind the scenic hills. Kristen took a few deep breaths basking in the moment while Ryan stole a kiss or two. The night ended with hundreds of photo booth captures, serenading and dancing to the best playlist and laughter all around. There was so much laughter, glances exchanged, and connection. We were there to freeze moments of joy, transition, and love, but we also felt welcomed being unofficial members of their bridal party.
Kristen and Ryan, your tender and kind-hearted souls merit a lifetime of happiness, joy, abundance and more laughter. We hope that you can look at this slice of your day and remember everything you promised and the year of planning, thinking and dreaming. We hope Thailand treats you well and thank you for taking us on this journey. We are so touched to have been there.
