Vendor Feature: Katy Birds Shop, San Rafael

If you know us, you already know that we are a pair of nostalgic souls and have an appreciation so deep for the old world. If you didn’t know this, then, now you do. We love history and are nerds when it comes to costume dramas and baroque furnishings, and everything previously loved. So when Maria, from Studio Wildflower, invited me to come over and photograph some Holiday stylings at Katy’s Bird Shop in San Rafael, it was a given that I was more than happy to do.

You see if you haven’t visited Katy’s Bird Shop in San Rafael, you’re in for an antique and vintage treat. Her curative eye places items and elements from different eras seamlessly almost as if they all belong on a set. Her furnishings are from a different time and tell a story of a previous life with each detail. Because she has rental and styling service, her inventory changes but she also uses various elements to convey a different look from one piece. Katy also makes it her mission to hunt down treasures for her customers to complete home interiors projects or for personal collection. She breathes a story into each piece and will happily describe different uses and purpose for it.

I was most stunned by her curiosity and openness to dig for more. Although we focused on a specific set in her shop, there was layer after layer of antiques and vintage elements all around. There wasn’t enough time in the day to be able to see her entire collection fully. She and Maria made quite the duo for the Holiday styling set that I am determined to use more of Katy’s props for our own studio photohshoot design.
