Have you ever seen those days when the sun is setting dispersing the pink and purples tones throughout the sky? Have you ever seen those days when it’s both sunny and raining? I remember when my mom used to tell me that my grandma would say, that on those days, a baby deer was being born. I chuckle at the fact that I always think about my grandma when the clouds get pink and purple, and it’s raining. Sometimes, I get caught up in the constant workflow of things, that I forget to be inspired or to be motivated to challenge myself. I look at other creative entrepreneurs and feel that I have really long way to go. It’s true. I do.

The other day, someone very wise said to me, what does success mean to you? Success? Why, that’s a word that I can’t begin to describe. Simply, I started to brainstorm in one of my morning hikes. Away from the ping sound on my phone going off every few minutes, away from the constant chatter going on in Facebook, away from all the noise I hear on the daily. I made up my time machine and transported myself to the future (yes, I have my own time machine). I went to the place where Victor and I would be on a plane jet setting to a place we’d never been to before. We were both eagerly anticipating the arrival in a place that wasn’t a touristy but was an extraordinary place. I wasn’t able to understand the language but thankfully did my best with Google Translate. The day after, we’d be shooting a love story together. The day after the nuptials, we’d explore our new surroundings and taste new flavors, dance to a new rhythm and make new friendships. The day after that, we’d come to our lovely home in the Bay Area with Sonny waiting. I’d call my mom to take her out to lunch and tell her all about our new ventures. She’d tell me, actually she’d encourage me to set up a time to be able to give back to the new community I’d visited. Then we would start planning.

I realized after this time machine segment was over in my head, that I’m in the middle of a tall Eucalyptus trees filling the air with their medicinal scent. I realized that I’m here in this time and now. I realize that what success means to me is very simple. Others may have different aspirations and motivations, but success is defined in your own terms and not by comparison to others. This is how I define it. Success is to see the world with Victor, come and work from our warm home (big enough for the both of us), to be able to have flexible time to spend with my family and friends and to give myself selflessly to people who aren’t even asking for help. I want to be able to afford to do this and more.

I want to be able to watch the sunset from a foreign coast and watch the pink and purple hues make a magical blend while some rain falls and always remember the beginning. My beginning.
