We officially kicked off our wedding season this past Saturday, and we cannot wait to see how these next few months will unfold! Last year we made a promise not just to give our 110% percent but to stay sane balancing it all too! Sometimes amidst trying to not miss anything, to be thinking creatively and being fully present on these days, we need a few relievers to keep up. Here are 5 things we’re doing to remain our very best this season!

- Regularly maintaining date night. Sometimes as business partners, it’s hard to turn off the business talk. We’ll regularly check in with one another without even thinking. So we’re taking one night out each week where we don’t talk shop and are just living life, whether that’s a good cup of coffee a hot gluten-free meal.

- Look for inspiration in the most unrelated places. Instead of gushing over at wedding blogs, or scrolling through #weddinginspo hashtags on Instagram, we look to going to museums, art openings and even delving into interior design and Chef on Netflix. We love to see how other mediums interpret light and their subjects. Sometimes, I even feel more refreshed after spending a few hours reading and looking at Renaissance portraiture paintings. It helps bring perspective and a certain uniqueness to our work.

- Eating right! Victor and I love to cook. So we’ll regularly try new recipes that are paleo-friendly in the attempt to be in the best shape. We love to spoil our taste palettes by including a new ingredient while also staying healthy. I’m a firm believer that food can be medicine, and this is something that Victor is still overindulgent learning. It also helps us do something different with our hands since we’re always holding our cameras and lenses or editing.

- Taking weekly hikes with our furry children. Currently being located in Marin allows us to have access to so many trails that lead to breathtaking places. Breathing fresh air infused with Eucalyptus while having little to no signal is so liberating. I often look for patterns in nature and find some crazy designs. If we’re feeling daring, we’ll boulder some trails to get the heartbeat going. Usually, right after our hikes, we’ll feel so bold and ready to conquer the day. It’s like a paradox, but it’s funny how disconnection will bring more connection to our work.

- Attending church. This is a big one since last year our attendance fell through the cracks. Being part of our church community brings so many fulfillments to our hearts. In church, people will often forget that we’re photographers, so we’ll find so much serenity from just being us. We’ll pray for our lives, our clients’ lives and find that our worries and qualms are in the right place. Maybe a church isn’t your thing, but having a place of meditation to let your hair down and rely on something bigger than yourself will help relieve daily stress build up.
We’re doing everything we can to honor these 5 things, as we know they do make our work better. It also allows us to balance life and find that we’re more grateful for things rather than stressed about the things that are missing. Always remember that there’s enough grace to get done all the things that need to get done! Happy wedding season! What are some things you do to balance it all? Leave it in a comment below, please!
