Having a hard time selecting your best man?

The wedding day gets closer, and the ‘to-do’ list gets smaller and while your dear bride has almost everything ready and planned from colors to menu stationery and her bridesmaids. You have someone in mind that can take the role of the Best Man. But indecisiveness gets in the way, and you don’t know how to choose? Does it have to be your brother, your cousin, your childhood best friend or even your closest college buddy?

I went through something similar, and it wasn’t easy to choose my best man. Although I have to say my best man was the best; he even helped with wedding projects like painting vintage furniture pieces that we used for our wedding. He is my friend Luigy.

These are some tips for ‘best-man’ qualifiers:

1.  He has to understand that your wedding day is your important day. On that day that makes you feel as if you’re the movie star on set as well as the director’s assistant (the director being your bride), it’s great to have someone who can cater to you.
2. He knows your likes and dislikes, and he arrives on time to get ready at your place. He might even have your favorite energy drink or water and if you’re lucky a cold IPA.
3. He’s got your back through the whole day. Since they already know that this is the day you have to look your best (especially in an outdoor affair), there can be unexpected surprises.
4. He becomes one of the best assistants in your day. He cares about the wedding itinerary, and they remember details that can be easily forgotten, like your wallet, hotel key, rings, vows, etc.
5. He is there for you. One of the most important best-man tasks he is cheering you up and helps you fight the nerves.
6. At the time of speeches & toasts, eloquence and pre-written thoughts slip away as he starts to speak from the heart. He incites laughter, sighs and sometimes there’s a little tremor in his voice while a tear sheds from all the happiness and emotion. He is genuinely happy for you.

I hope this short list brings insight to a role that many can underrate. Let me conclude with this, a ‘best-man’ is with you before, during and after the wedding and above anything else, he is your friend.
