They flew across the country for the big one. THE RACE. They had been preparing and practicing for months. After, a year of planning a wedding in NYC, Jenny and Christian, wanted to celebrate before the big day arrived. It had been close to a year since Christian had proposed in the beautiful McWay Falls in Big Sur. To commemorate that wonderful moment, Jenny secretly and (deviously may I add) arranged for us to come and capture their love portraits before the big race the next day.

It was a very windy weekend in Big Sur, and although the scene, the light, and everything was stunning, we struggled a bit but managed. Jenny and Christian’s lightheartedness was the best. Their laughter was so contagious that I had to pull away to compose myself. As we ducked from the wind, they invited us into their heart and told us more about their previous visit–the one where Christian proposed. Having never had the privilege of seeing Big Sur in person, the purple sand, the wind and the many many tourists (including a celebrity sighting), didn’t take away from their love one for another.

As I climbed each rock to and tread through the vicious sand attacks of wind, I couldn’t help but be grateful for Jenny and Christian. Even though their huge day was then less than a month away, their goal as a couple and accomplishment (she sent me photos of the race aftermath the next day) inspired me of why what we do is what we do. Their biggest win of the race? I’d say that their hearts were not just for a trip, race, or even to distract themselves from a wedding, but to realize this journey of marriage and partnership. This is their biggest win. As they marry this Saturday, in NYC, I know that they have a lifetime of marathons, trips to other coastal cities and die-hard laughter of memories.
