How to Plan for the Wedding Proposal

How I Proposed to my Wife Pt. 1

I never thought that on a Spring afternoon, I would meet the person that would one day be my wife. Just like that, in a church, playing the piano while singing, I saw my wife for the first time.

Our relationship didn’t happen from night to morning. Before we were husband and wife, we went through several beautiful phases. We were friends, a friendship that came about from working in the youth ministry together in our church. Until one day, I got up the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend. I was beyond happy, and I knew there was always something unique and extraordinary in Tanya.

Time passed, and I came to understand that I wanted to build a life with her and share with her the rest of the days the Lord would give me.

So the question came about, how was I going to ask her to be my wife?; how can I do it? Where? How? And the ring? And above anything else what would be her answer?

Between us, this was my plan of attack:

1. I began to look for the ring. It wasn’t easy; I wanted something different, something not just aesthetic pleasing but also with meaning. So I found myself walking through downtown San Rafael to find what I was looking for–a ring with three diamonds. Which for me represented our past, our present and the future by each other’s side. A tiny note, I had to save up to be able to purchase, then I cleverly and subtly had to guess her ring size. All of this was new to me; I had never gifted a ring before.

2. The second step in the plan was to find the perfect location to be able to propose. It had to be a unique for us both and special. After many nights of thinking, I started competing with my own desire to ask her and then I finally found the place. The location came from one of our many talks while we drove in our beautiful city of San Francisco. This place was a witness to our many trips into the City, enormous and characterized by a unique color. This place was also the one that gave me the biggest welcome when I came for the first time to Marin County (my now home). Ladies and gentlemen that place is the famous Golden Gate Bridge, the two of us admired it so much. Tanya, having been born and raised in the Bay Area, had never stepped foot on it. I remember that it was on a winter afternoon, sun shining bright but freezing, but if you really want to know what happens next, stay tuned for the second part of this adventure coming next week! To be continued…
