The Lesson We Learned while Renovating our Studio Space

Today we’re ready to share something not quite aesthetically pleasing. As you might’ve guessed from some our random instastories last month we’ve been renovating our space–our studio space.  Although, we work very hard to curate online galleries as well as to show stories that could assimilate almost as if you’re there by appreciating every beautiful detail. This, this is also a representation of hard work. We’re showing you the before of the newly renovated Create studio space.

Once we signed up on co-sharing this beautiful space with some peers led by Katie from Katie Rebecca Events, we knew we were part of something special. This is what we call ‘the studio.’ This is where you’ll find us working when we’re not working from our small home. And creating bits and pieces that will complete a love story whether between two people or more. This space is like our second home, where we want some quiet and peace of mind.

This was a rough project, one that I didn’t anticipate all the nitty gritty details (really gritty) kind of work. It was as if I was in one of the Fixer-Upper show but being Chip and the client at the same time 😉 Katie had a design vision and we went to work towards it. We moved furniture in and out and all around, stripped the carpets and layers of carpets, scraped off the old carpet glue, then washed the concrete floors, painted and painted the walls and baseboards (my job) and assembled pieces of furniture. Also, this process included many runs to Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Tamalpais Paint & Color. There were many times where I wiped the sweat from my brow carefully not to rub any solution on my face while on my knees, ready to give up.

I realized, something that Katie mentioned in passing, “this is what real entrepreneurs do,” we do what others don’t want to and what many don’t see. Over the years Victor and I have built an online studio full of love, sweat and the inevitable tears (of joy, stress and no sleep). Each scrape, for me, represented the layers of myself from previous years of so much anxiety built up and the ghost of constant imposter’s syndrome past being slowly eroded. Each wipe of luster on the concrete floor was the perfect polish we needed to shine like we used to. Or how we intend to. Sometimes it’s so beautiful to have amazing imagery and show-stopping captures, but sometimes we need to see the before. Because the journey to the after matters. After all, there wouldn’t be an ‘after’ without a ‘before’.

Stay tuned for our ‘after’ reveal.
