Although I’d say that my photographic ‘first-love’ is undoubtedly weddings and love tales, photographing the smiles of families is where it all started. It was more than a few years ago that I had no coin in my pocket, was an overburdened college student without anything of material value to gift my mama on Mother’s Day. Even though, I know that she’d gladly accept anything, empty hands were no option. I wanted to do something special, something to commemorate her and her unconditional support for the upcoming day. So there and behold, I had a lightbulb moment—I grabbed my then Nikon DSLR and had the most ‘then-alluring’ idea to photograph my brothers and me somehow. I planned on printing some pretty prints, frame them and gift it to her with a shiny bow. I realized that she had no recent photos of all three of us together.
So off we went, I picked the nicest dress I owned at the time and made my brothers dress up in their Sunday bests. I photographed them and then I quickly taught my younger sibling to photograph me (basic composition and basically showing him where the shutter button was). We produced what I thought seemed to be acceptable given the three-person situation. After, I finished framing and wrapping the images, I felt so happy to give them to her. To this day, those pictures hang in her living room. Although, I kind of shrug my shoulder as I pass by seeing those images, I know the meaning the pictures hold to my mama especially since we’re not altogether at home like it used to be.
I always view photographs like wine, as they age they gain more value. Thus, I’m excited to announce that we are holding Mother’s Day mini-sessions for you to gift that angelic being you call mama. Sessions can be just siblings or the whole family altogether. We have limited dates ranging from April 25th to May 3rd, so be sure to contact us as soon as possible. Each mini session includes a set of 20 5×7 prints, all images archived to a USB, an online private gallery for viewing pleasure and surprise gift from me! These sessions will take an estimated time of 40 minutes in the outdoors in San Rafael. For those who book a spot, there will be a welcome letter sent to you with details.
