There I was waiting like a wandering tourist attempting to catch signal at every inch of each step I took. My worries soon started to turn into these little anxiety monsters reminding me of the mist, the dense fog, the endless traffic, and the hundreds of tourists at every turn. Muir Woods simulated the entrance of the ever-so populated theme parks, and I was the kid lost. I stared at my phone blatantly hoping Sarah might have a God-send of a phone carrier to send me a quick text confirming her attendance. Alas, she thought cleverly and snuck up on me. We both conceded, maybe Muir Woods wasn’t meant to be. We had already re-scheduled their engagement session once due to the El Nino rain visitations. Sarah and I were determined to make this a success. After almost half an hour of searching for each other’s hubbies (or in her case Hubby-to-be), we decided to venture off to the top–the very top.

Mount Tamalpais East Peak, usually without fail stays clear of Karl, the Fog. At each mile, we advanced I was praying and hoping for a miraculous turnaround and clear blue skies. All the praying and hoping seemed to be at a lost when we finally reached the summit. Karl was present. He was in his truest nature and ferocious form. I felt as if I had failed. Sarah hesitated a bit but Billy took her hand holding the picnic basket in the other and decided to have faith. Treading the way around the .62-mile peak it started to clear, sunlight peeked in and rewarded our efforts with a breathtaking view.

Our segue from Muir Woods alluded to the moment when Billy took Sarah to Crater lake for an impromptu visit. After being together for six years, they were headed off to Billy’s parents for Thanksgiving. They drove their extensive way from the Bay Area up to Washington where they first met back in college. When all the sudden Billy decided to veer off to Crater Lake in Oregon. Sarah was a bit perplexed since it was out of the way. Billy was adamant though and explained to her that it was a sight to be seen. There was snow all around, and it couldn’t be more magical. Billy took her hand and started to hike to get the best view. Without objections, Sarah followed thinking that it was just a scenic pit stop. Little did she know what Billy carried in his pocket the whole drive and the entire hike up there. They continued until they could get a glance at the stunning mountainous view. He was slightly impatient and decided to tell her how much he loved and cared for her. He concluded by asking her to be his wife. Sarah unequivocally said yes. They had left the Bay Area as a couple and were arriving at their Washington home as an engaged couple.

Sarah, it was meant to be just like you and Billy. Your kind hearts and love for food make me want to speed up summer time for your beautiful day in Deloach. Your patience and joyfulness painted an even greater picture that can’t be replicated. I’m honored.
