Our 4th « Tanya & Victor

Our 4th

1i9a4009We don’t celebrate dates. We don’t make fancy trips for the sake of 2 numbers in a year. We don’t give each other gifts for date obligations like birthdays, anniversary or Christmas. We celebrate moments. We give each other gifts just because. We love to dance randomly in our room pretending we’re in a live Johnnyswim concert. And we love to experience things together. 4 years ago we decided to grab hold of each other and said ‘I do’ in front of our beloved friends and families a year after we married in the courthouse.

Last Thursday as we finished wrapping things up in the studio around 10:30 pm and had sushi, I thought about what we were up to 4 years ago at that time. I told Victor earlier on in the year as we watched our dear friend’s husband life montage at his memorial service, that I was no longer going to count down to dates to celebrate. Instead, I want to celebrate each and every second of each day.  He agreed. I knew he was also touched by the occasion while we watched our friend grieve. Since then, we don’t really keep track of the weeks, months or years. We just celebrate. We learned the importance of living each moment and that we’ll never get it back.

We get to work together and photograph weddings. We get to relive this day through an apparatus that records moments of our loving couples we serve. As we go throughout each wedding day, we occasionally wink to each other in remembrance of the day that launched us into the world as a new family.

Maybe Victor loves that he’s no longer held accountable to remember anything fancy. Maybe I like to remember and play this silent movie in my head all the time. Yes, we live spontaneously, we don’t make reservations, we buy our concert tickets last minute, and we plan as if we will live forever. This is us, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So babe, here’s to millions of October 13th’s more, more celebrating, dancing, laughing and just living it up together.

Cue Johnnyswim’s Summer Romance to soundtrack this blogpost correctly…
