The Picture Perfect Place for your Photoshoot

Muir Woods, John Muir, session, Bay Area

Hiking in Muir Woods

I’m a true Cali girl. I love that I live in the Bay Area especially. I always have this conversation with my girlfriends about how blessed we are to live in such a picturesque place. The other day, over a casual birthday brunch, my bestie asked us whether we would consider moving permanently to anywhere else. After a quick ponder of a second we had identical answers: if the opportunity presented elsewhere more glamorous (keyword—‘more’) then there would be a possibility. Although, Victor and I have plans to move to France for some time with the intention of moving back to the Bay.

The truth is California, the Bay Area, is where it’s at. Imagine this, in a 20-minute drive you’re in the middle of tall ancient Redwood trees and in another 20-30 minute drive you’re at the beach with a panoramic ocean front view. Get in the car again and drive for another couple hours north, and you pass the leading of endless vines in Napa. You head a little East, and you can find white blankets of snow (in the right season, of course). And just as easily, you head South, and you’ll find geysers and desert plains. Hollywood and the nuance of warm waters are just another few hours away. There’s no denying that our Golden State offers a variety of drop-dead gorgeous backdrops and the Bay Area is the epicenter of it all.

In the last few sessions, there has been a whole lot of scouting pushing precedent boundaries of sessions before. I think I’ve been more impressed with all of the Bay Area’s offerings in the last few weeks than the last twenty-something years I’ve been living here.

I always suggest couples to think about the places and things they do and visit on their free time. Usually, those personal activities will reveal unique characteristics about the relationship and/about themselves. Whether it’s a location under the iconic brick colored bridge or of it’s in the middle of a rose garden, or tiny in comparison next to the Redwoods trees, it’s a set where you’ll be the queen. Any backdrop of your choice will undoubtedly be beautiful, but it’s your love for one another and self-love that will be at the front of the stage.

Recently, I did a shoot that had specific locations planned. Victor and I had scouted places within the locations a few days and hours before. However with Karl the Fog always being on standby, he crept over the mountains creating a blanket of mist and haziness interrupting our shoot. I knew we would have to change our preselected locations. The plan was averted. But what we ended up was far better than we anticipated. The couple loved it, and they looked as if the were walking on clouds, literally.

There might be places far and wide where I have yet to be, but I can’t deny that the Bay Area, California is our Big Apple on the West Coast.  The California love is pretty evident…
